Drawing Hands

I've always loved to draw hands, even though it's usually really tricky, and they nearly always look really silly until you're a fair way through.

I'll get plenly of practise drawing hands in the pieces I'm working on now though. Hands in nearly every one. For the moment they're all female's hands, so at least I can model them on my own.

When a guy's hands are required, I call Steve in to model, and he gets the joy of not being allowed to move for a very long time instead.

Frog Party

The one good thing about the spring weather warming up, is the frogs come out to play again.

And you may have noticed from here and here, that I have a thing for frogs. Always have.

These little guys are less than an inch long at full size, and dozens and dozens of them live in the row of plants between our driveway and dam, and they plaster themselves on the windows at night to catch bugs. So cute!

Now I find it hard to sleep if I can't hear a chorus of crazy happy frogs outside, especially if there's rain in the air, but then, when friends visit wonder how we can sleep with all that noise. It's funny what you get used to...

Of course, being in Queensland, we have a silly amount of horrible cane toads too, but I'm hoping that the little green guys are fighting back.

I might be over drawing only animals for the moment, but I can't get tired of the real thing :)

I thought the material for the girl's top was looking a bit flat, so I've gone a little hatch-happy with it:

I keep telling myself that I'm not going to get lost in the details, but it's the details that I love, so why change that? Sure, it takes much longer, but I can't present something that I feel is only half finished.

[I also keep telling myself that I won't watch the V8 races when I should be doing artwork, or that I won't attempt to do artwork while watching the V8s, but I'm still working on that part.]

I just updated my about page. Not such a big deal but at least now it isn't blank - not quite sure when that happened...

I got plenty of drawing done tonight though, and it's been a while since I've been able to say that. Now I'm off to bed, so I can get up early and get back to it. There's going to be a finished artwork tomorrow.

On the drawing board

I'm only starting this piece for the third time over. But at least I've settled on a drawing surface (finally). I'm hoping she'll be finished over the weekend. It's been so long since I've been able to post a finished artwork!

Such a tidy desk have I.

Just for the record:

I'm going by this name from now on. Alex Louisa. I know it's sort of silly to up and change your 'art' name but it's something that I've been thinking about for a while now, and it's better to put it out there sooner rather than later. And, change is good.

If you hadn't already guessed, Louisa is my middle name, and I'm quite happy to to use it instead of my surname, because I've never liked "Tebb" anyway. Not at all. I'll also be getting married early next year so I'll be ditching my surname in favour of a new one then anyway! (I'll still go by Alex Louisa for my art though.)

And my silly self gets a kick out of the extra syllables. 'Tebb' just sounds too blunt to me. My great-grandmother's name (on my mum's side) was Louisa. She was an artist, and I think it's kind of cool that I turned out to be the same.

Just thought I'd introduce myself...
