I'd love to be able to say that I've been absent from the blog because I've been working so hard on my artwork that I just haven't had the time to resurface, but unfortunately I've only been working on things for other people. I've kind of been drowning in a freelance project - my fault entirely for letting it get to me - but you know how it is.
But good news! For the first time this year I picked up a paintbrush!! Even if it was only for a few hours. You might remember this recent piece:
After having it sitting out on my desk for a while, I've found it to be, well, dead boring. I love the branches, the bird, the watch, but the background? Blergh. Not quite sure what I was thinking there, and it seems silly now, considering how long I spent working up the subtle layers - stuff that you can't even see until you're up close.
So, I've never felt the need to re-work a piece before, but there's a first time for everything. If I don't like it, then how I can I expect anyone else to like it? It needs a darker vibe, so I'm losing the la-dee-da pastels and giving it some guts.
Now there's still a long way to go, but it was a very good excuse it use my new paints at least!
(Don't judge too harshly until you've seen it finished!!)
