I thought I had better try to get at least one little post in for May! (June will be far less neglected, I promise.)
There has been very little art making happening around here - hence nothing much to post about. The most exciting thing was painting our white ceilings... whiter. And, you get my point.
There was at least a little bit of something creative going on though. Mother's Day is always a good excuse to get a little crafty, and my favourite part of gift-giving is making the card or tag to go along with the gift.
I'm not much of a fan of roses at all, but I'm going to go along with the general idea that mums always love them. I had some new Tim Holtz stamps that I wanted to play with, and this is the result. I started with some plain old kraft card, which I inked up for the background and the rose (making the rose was fun, I hadn't tried that before...) and the leaves are just ripped-up versions of those paper flowers that people love to plaster their photos with when they're scrapbooking. I'm not much of a fan of scrapbooking either, but some of the products are certainly fun!
The rose petals are stamped with some lovely script, but that's a little hard to see. The one new thing I do love is a product by Tim Holtz called Rock Candy. While I'm listing things: I'm also not a fan of glitter, but this stuff is more like little glassy chunks. It almost makes things look dewy. (You can also get Rock Candy in the crackle paint = AWESOME. Actually, I used that on the last card I made...)
So yes, not my usual arty stuff, but any creating is good creating in my book, and it got me thinking about all sorts of layered/3D/collagey goodness that I could incorporate into the series of artworks that I'm about to delve into. Ooh, I can't wait to get started. Hooray!
